Still standing at Whiteford Point

Whiteford Lighthouse was trickier than most plein air painting places to get to. I had to leave before dawn to be there for the right stage of the tide, and had picked a rare day of very low winds. The paths down from Cwm Ivy to the beach had flooding from the winter rains, were impassible in some places so I had to find a way round, and in others I had to wobble along wooden planks with my heavy rucksack and panel, trying not to end up in the drink!

Once on the beach it's still a bit of a trek through soft sand, mounds of shells, and reef. When I arrived the tide had not dropped far enough so I had a little wait. As it fell back this beautiful big rockpool appeared in front of the lighthouse, so I set up my easel to paint.
